Thoughts For Today

71 degrees today! This brought out my desire to go out and dig in the dirt, play in my gardens, and daydream while I anticipate spring and all the pleasures my garden will bring... I know it's still too early, a frost is waiting somewhere just around the corner, but today spring has sprung in my heart. And so I share a few favorite quotes on gardens...

In my garden there is a large place for sentiment.  My garden of flowers is also my garden of thoughts and dreams.  The thoughts grow as freely as the flowers, and the dreams are as beautiful.  ~Abram L. Urban

I used to visit and revisit it a dozen times a day, and stand in deep contemplation over my vegetable progeny with a love that nobody could share or conceive of who had never taken part in the process of creation.  It was one of the most bewitching sights in the world to observe a hill of beans thrusting aside the soil, or a rose of early peas just peeping forth sufficiently to trace a line of delicate green.  ~Nathaniel Hawthorne, Mosses from and Old Manse

I think that if ever a mortal heard the voice of God it would be in a garden at the cool of the day.  ~F. Frankfort Moore, A Garden of Peace

  3. Susan,
I love this post especially Moore's quote about hearing the voice of God in the garden at the cool of the day. I share your pleasure for running my fingers through the soil in the spring as I love gardening so much myself.
I want to let you know that I received your book this morning and I already started reading it. I love it and can't wait for the whole love story between Maggie and Joe to unfold. Blessings and thanks for the book.

  4. Hi Dolores,
I knew you would understand the longing I feel to be in my garden again! We seem to be kindred spirits in so many ways! Gardening has always been like a "re-birthing" of my soul as it awakes from winter's depths into the glorious warmth of spring. Moore's quote is also one of my favorites because whenever I am "out" in nature I always feel so close to God.
I received your book "Growing Up and Liking It" yesterday and I am so enjoying it! It is just like sitting down with you, my good friend, and having a very comfortable, inspiring conversation. Your writing is full of wit and wisdom, as well as wonderful advise. I think all of my readers and friends would greatly appreciate and benefit from reading your books. I know I have! Thank you for making me smile and for sharing a bit of yourself with others! Blessings,
    Susan
